Aqara Motion Sensor P1 is a battery-powered PIR motion sensor with a built-in light sensor. It is designed for entry-triggered automations, such as illuminating a hallway when movement is detected in low light. Its configurable detection interval and adjustable sensitivity make it more flexible than a simple fixed-time motion trigger.

What it does

• Choose low, medium or high sensitivity to adjust the distance at which movement triggers the sensor.
• Set the detection timeout from 1 to 200 seconds in Aqara Home; shorter intervals can make routines more responsive but affect battery use.
• Use motion together with the built-in light sensing to avoid turning on lights unnecessarily in a bright room.
• The included adjustable stand helps aim the sensing area. Aqara specifies 170° coverage at up to 2 m, or 150° at up to 7 m.

Where it fits

P1 suits corridors, entrances, stairs and other areas where people normally move through the sensor’s view. For a night-light routine, combine movement with a time window and suitable brightness. During installation, walk through the intended area from different directions and check that adjacent rooms or traffic outside the target space do not produce unwanted triggers.

Setup and compatibility

Official setup requires an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub and the Aqara Home app. Supported third-party ecosystems are reached through the appropriate hub integration. The light sensor assists motion-based rules; it should not be assumed to provide a continuously updated standalone illuminance reading in every platform. Pair and test the unit before fixing the adhesive mount permanently.

Important details

PIR detects changes caused by movement; it is not stationary-person radar detection. A seated person can therefore be missed by a motion-only vacancy rule. Aqara’s up-to-five-year battery claim assumes the indicator is disabled and detection timeout is at least 30 seconds; actual life varies with settings and use. This is an indoor sensor, and battery cells must remain inaccessible to children.
