Tapo C520WS is an outdoor pan-and-tilt camera with 4MP video, a starlight sensor and built-in spotlights. It connects over Wi-Fi or Ethernet and uses a separate DC power adapter. It suits installations that need adjustable viewing direction while keeping setup and daily use within the Tapo app.

Frame the areas that matter

Choose a mounting position with a useful view of the approach, then set movement and detection zones. Person, pet and vehicle detection can make notifications more relevant. Motion tracking moves the camera toward detected activity; the camera does not see every direction at the same instant. Check the parked view as well as the tracking path.

Plan power and network separately

Ethernet offers a wired data connection, but this model is not PoE-powered. Provide the specified DC supply even when using a network cable. For wireless installation, test the 2.4 GHz signal at the mounting point with the camera operating. Protect cable joints and place the power adapter appropriately for the installation.

Choose storage and access

A separately purchased microSD card supports local recording. Optional Tapo Care cloud services require a subscription and availability checks. RTSP and ONVIF offer integration options, but supported functions vary by recorder and software. Test live view, audio and recorded playback before final handover, and confirm the supplied hardware version against the required features.

Will a PoE switch power it directly?

No. Its Ethernet socket is for networking; the camera still needs its DC power supply.
