Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2

Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2 is a USB radio adapter for a computer already running Home Assistant. Choose Zigbee or Thread during setup, then connect supported devices through the appropriate software. It is a companion to Home Assistant Green and other supported hosts, rather than a standalone automation hub.

Give wireless devices a route into Home Assistant

Use the adapter to build a Zigbee network for compatible switches and sensors, or dedicate it to Thread for a suitable Matter setup. Start with the devices you actually want to connect, then choose the protocol. The adapter cannot operate Zigbee and Thread simultaneously; a system that needs both must plan separate radios or an existing compatible Thread border router.

Place the antenna where it can work

The separate base and supplied 1.5 m cable let you position the radio away from the host computer. Keep it in an open location rather than behind a metal cabinet. Walls, nearby electronics and the arrangement of powered devices still affect coverage, so test the installation in its intended rooms before expanding it.

Compatibility and installation

ZBT-2 supports ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT for Zigbee use. Thread operation requires the relevant Home Assistant configuration; Matter devices also need the Matter integration. Check exact models and required software versions before replacing an existing manufacturer hub. Take a backup and follow the applicable migration instructions when moving an established network.

Does it run Home Assistant itself?

No. It provides the wireless radio. Home Assistant must already run on Green or another supported computer.

Can one unit run Zigbee and Thread together?

No. Dedicate the adapter to one protocol and plan a separate radio or border router if both are needed.

Check the exact device and integration. Protocol support alone does not guarantee that all manufacturer-specific functions will be available.
