Aeotec Aeotec Water Sensor 8
Key features
Monitor leaks near a sink, washing machine or water heater with a remote probe and a discreet sensor body. Water Sensor 8 also reports temperature and humidity to a compatible Z-Wave hub. Alerts and optional shut-off routines depend on your controller and any separately installed valve actuator.

Product Description
Catch a leak where it begins
Water beneath a sink or washing machine often stays hidden until there is a visible mess. Water Sensor 8 places a probe at the likely pooling point while its main unit remains mounted nearby, giving your compatible hub a signal it can turn into an alert or a planned response.
What it does
- The supplied water probe reports detected water to a Z-Wave system, making it suitable for monitoring the floor near plumbing and appliances.
- Temperature, humidity and dew-point information add context around condensation and damp conditions. Mould-risk notifications concern the environment rather than detecting mould itself.
- The probe connection also supports an external dry-contact binary input for suitable integrations. This is an alternative input application to assess with your installer, not a voltage input.

Installation and compatibility
Mount the main electronics in a dry, ventilated spot and extend the probe to where water would collect. The IP20 enclosure should not be submerged. Pair with a compatible regional Z-Wave controller and verify delivery of a test leak event before relying on a routine. Aeotec provides setup guidance for Home Assistant/Z-Wave JS, SmartThings and Hubitat; required driver support should be checked for the chosen platform.
Planning your automation
Under a kitchen sink, use a hub notification to bring an unnoticed drip to attention. In a utility area, an automation could also operate a separately installed compatible shut-off actuator. The sensor itself does not close a valve or isolate an appliance. Plan who receives the alert and how the water supply can be stopped, then test the complete chain. Choose the final probe position based on floor slope and likely leak paths rather than simply placing it near the appliance.
